Sonic UnleashedAs more news has been announced and more videos have been shown it has become apparent that Sonic Team and Dimps (developing the Wii and PS2 versions) have decided to take the blue hedgehog back to his roots. Not only is the gameplay taking a hint from the past but so is almost everything else. Dr. Eggman/Robotnik returns as the main antagonist for the game and he can only be stopped by collecting the Chaos Emeralds. From the sound, and look of things, we will be getting a next-gen old-fashioned Sonic game!

There are a few new twists to the game, which can be seen as either a blessing or a curse. The most noticeable addition is Sonic’s transformation into a werewolf. What new style of gameplay this will bring to the Sonic series has yet to be seen, but we can be sure there will be destruction. An added feature to control Sonic’s change to wolf form is the day and night feature which will regulate when he is in which form. What is known for sure is as the game progresses Sonic will have to not only deal with Dr. Eggman but also realize the true power of his alternate form.

Gameplay, based on screenshots and videos as well as some announcements from Sega, is said to mirror the Sonic Rush and Sonic Rivals games. This means the game will be a 3D sidescroller with a few exceptions here and there. Sonic Team has taken a hint on how their Wii game, Sonic and the Secret Rings, was received and decided to use the camera’s angle from that game in a few spots for Unleashed. How this will all work out is anyone’s guess, but by the looks of things, we will be in for a treat.

New abilities such as “side-step maneuvers” and “drift turns”, among others, round off the new features to be seen in Unleashed. Will it be good? Is this Sonic’s return to the limelight? Can this make up for the issues in the past? I would like to think so, but only time will tell. Until more information arrives, enjoy the new Unleashed trailer!

Better than the first one. Plus, Tales is in this one and a 2 player game.
