Mario Super SluggersAfter addressing some rumors and questions most fans of Nintendo’s Wii had, I thought it was time I asked them directly to see what they had to say about the rumors. The next day I had word back from Jennifer Han, a PR for Nintendo of America. So what does Nintendo have to say about all the rumors?

On the subject of the hard drive functionality for the Wii, she said: “We have also been hearing concerns about individuals worrying about their storage space on the Wii. And we are currently devising a proper response for this concern with Nintendo of America. Once this is finalized, I will update you on this topic.” It sounds like Nintendo is actually addressing the situation quite well, and as soon as new information comes in it will be supplied to you as well.

The response about Blu-Ray support for the Wii is as expected. “About the Wii with blu-ray capabilities, we have not heard anything from Nintendo about this support.” Chances of this actually becoming a reality were slim in the first place. Despite this, will these rumors continue to be spread around in the future? I do not doubt it.

While I had the chance, I decided to ask about the new Mario and Zelda games rumored to be in production. “Nintendo has announced that there will be a Mario Super Sluggers game that will be released soon. As for a Super Mario Galaxy sequel and Zelda games, we have not heard any information on that. However, E3 is coming up in July where new titles and releases will be announced so please stay tuned for that.” The E3 mentioned here is actually the E3 Media & Business Summit. This show is invitation-only and these invitations are only available to industry professionals. That said, more information may show up at the “second” E3 show (Entertainment for All Expo/E for All) in October. Will there be big news about a return to outer space with Mario or yet another trip to Hyrule with Link this year? Evidently, it may not be as out of the question as you would think.

As contact with Nintendo continues, more information on these topics, and others, will be provided as they become available. I hope that this answered some questions and put to rest some rumors that had been floating around for quite some time. With both E3 shows approaching rapidly who knows what we could be in store for. For now if you are looking forward to seeing Mario Super Sluggers, it should be on shelves August 2, 2008 in the US and soon after will be available in Europe and Australasia (New Zealand/Australia).
