The need for high-speed wheeled transport became an obvious necessity whenever combat in built-up areas erupted. As Arachs were far too large and slow to serve the purpose, the Scarab was designed to fill the role. Squatty and angry looking, the S54 Scarab has four wide tires making it equally effective on and off road, and its powerful Coreburner-fueled self-contained steam piston engine gives it theoretically unlimited speed, though it damages the vehicle and engine to go much more than 80km/h (50mph). Built for urban environments where infantry can easily ambush vehicles, the Scarab can open large windows big enough to shoot from or, if under attack, close them and use slit windows to keep enemy fire out. The vehicle can carry, in addition to the two crew, up to six combat-loaded troops, three casualties with an attendant medic, ten unburdened people, or a large quantity of food, ammunition, light weapons and more.

Variants
Standard – Most Scarabs come with a small armored turret and an 11mm heavy machine gun. Effective against infantry and other light vehicles, the standard S54 is an effective combat vehicle in most skirmish situations.
Flamethrower – In some instances, more firepower is requires. In those cases, the flamethrower carrier is brought to the battlefield. With a 14mm nozzle for spraying chemically-impregnated napalm, the flamethrower mod is devastating in close quarters combat, capable of burning troops in the open, suffocating enemies in cover, and stalling heavy enemy vehicles.
Command – Since battlefield officers need to get from place to place quickly to assess the progress of combat, the Scarab was the obvious choice to make a command vehicle. With the heavy machinegun turret replaced by a smaller one with a 7.5mm machine gun, the rear of the command vehicle functions as a small war room and houses powerful radio transmitters and receivers.
