Apologies for the lack of updates lately. After our first release we did spend a good deal of time working on the UN, but finals and vacations happened so much of team ended up taking an extended break. A couple members have moved onto retail games as well, with HKH now working on
Bioshock 2 and Muk giving his aural magic to
Fairytale Fights. Don't worry, though - the rest of the us are hard at work on the next release of MEC2.
Release 1The first release of MEC2 was a big success, getting much more attention than we expected and overall a very positive reception.
ModDB did up a very detailed article on MEC2, including some great video clips.
Gamespot also gave us a nice Indie Spotlight article.
Things didn't go 100% smoothly though (bugs), but we've already fixed much of the bugs/errors for future versions. Until then
there is a post detailing some temporary solutions.
What will be in Release 2Here is a short list of some of the things we're working on for "Release 2" of MEC2;
- The UN Peacekeepers faction
- New IDF/GOI objects
- New maps
- Bug fixes
- Balancing
- Working EVA voices
- Ammo crates
- Expansion points
- Buyable superweapon upgrades
Commanche DownThe next release of Mideast Crisis 2 will include several new maps, one of which we're unveiling here exclusively. "Commanche Down" is a 2-player map created by Bhones. A while back we
recreated the C&C Generals shellmap for promotional screenshots. We ended up liking it so much that we expanded it into a full, playable map.
Unlike our other 2-player map, "Small Town Israel," this one is defensive focused, with most of the fuel and occupation points located near the starting points. There still are expansion points, but they are in the center of the map and are protected by hostile American forces. Clear them out and you also get access to a quicker route to the enemy base.
Two Party SystemThis map also showcases some new map objects for Guardians of Islam-based maps. While our Israeli maps tend to be
covered with nationalistic pride, our GOI maps feature political ads and banners based on the GOI Presidential campaign. The two political parties also will be extended to gameplay, as subfactions you can join (each unlocking different bonuses). As a benefit, some of your base buildings will also end up decorated with your party's banners as well.
Eye-CandyLast but not least, here's some screenshots from this news update.
