Today we have some screenshots from MidEast Crisis 2 from Smurf as a quick update on the mod's progress this September.

However, before we get to the good stuff, we have another request for voice actors for MEC2. If you have an accent, there's a good chance we'd like to hear it.

The Israeli Reservists

The Israeli Reservists are strong against vehicles and aircraft.

The Sayeret

The Sayerets are strong against fellow infantry; their special abilitydrops a suitcase nuke at its location which will blow up several seconds later if not intercepted.

The Jihadists

We have the Jihadists, who are generally weak against all targets. Their special move, however, is that they can spawn another unit right next to them.

The Martyrs

Martyrs are strong against infantry and vehicles. Their ability is to hijack civilian cars and turn them into demolition cars. Upon death all of your units get a damage boost for a limited time.

The Fedayeen

Strong against vehicles and infantry. Stealthed while moving. Can capture tech buildings and tech vehicles; on death they leave a land mine.

Awesome looking models, though the GoI infantry look like they belong to a rag-tag group organization rather than an actual military organization...

Nevermind.

I don't like the GOI infantry. They look like Alqaida or Taliban and not like soldiers. I m very dissapointed Sad
I thouht GOI is an alliance of states and not terrorist groups.

Maybe you could look at the Call of Duty 4 Al-Assad Army player models for some inspiration. They look modern enough with their PAGST helmets, plain-color 'tactical' BDUs and coyote brown load bearing vests.

Thats how they should look like or like the MEC soldiers from BF2.

I like the MEC from the PR mod. Six-color desert camo and G3 rifles FTW!

Are the Jihadists all one-handing AKs??!

Animators are rare, and our guy is super-backed up as it is...so yea, we suffer with using the C&C3 animation sets.

-------------

As for the GOI...there are two reasons for how they look;

1) We need a contrast, so players have a chance in hell at telling the ultra-small infantry apart from each other...something compounded by the fact that we can't up-scale the infantry size (if possible, I'd have increased their size at least 2x, maybe 3x).

2) I like the look of the more rag-tag GOI infantry better than having them all look like republican guard types.

I do know that it easily falls into the "the team says the GOI aren't terrorists, but some units look like terrorists, some act like terrorists...<complaining>" area...so yea, blame me.

They have the Mig-39 but no military uniforms? Huh
For example Moroccan World War 2 uniforms

Make them modern and you have your contrast. Instead of a helmet use a turban or shmagh like the jihadists.

The Fedayeen look like psychos who are fled from an asylum.
I thought the GOI will not use suicide bombers? Don't name them Martyres, please!

Thanks for the pics, but we have no plans on changing the art.

As for Martyr's...I tried to cut them (due to gameplay/story issues), and was met with major backlash from the team and testers...they all just really liked the unit, so it stays.

If its offensive, I'm sorry you feel that way...but you won't be alone since the other two factions have their own distasteful aspects as well.

If you want an ad-hoc response about the Jihadist skin, it would be that they represent the local militia rather than professional soldiers.  The technicals are another example of this relaxed attitude they have to formal military appearance amongst their rank and file.  The tank crews and pilots stand in for the more professional army types, but the GOI makes full use of every asset at its disposal, from local militias with their assault rifles to hackers waging cyber warfare.

(edit: That's not to say they aren't the legitimate military wing of a democratic state, but their philosophy to modern warfare isn't based around a purely 100% professional standing army.)
