@Rich19

Nice catch with the garrison "flags", yes...those objects all are essentially 2d planes. If it was possible, we'd skew it so that all augmented reality text would always be angled towards the camera...but that just isn't possible. As it is, readability is just fine in 99% of cases.

Sure it's possible, you just make the text a particle sprite, then attach that to a particle fx on an invisible object or something.

Or if not, some 3d elements might look a bit better. But I know that this sort of thing is likely to be way down the priorities list for you.

How about making it relevant. Maybe a Sign or a banner that changes. Or maybe one of those electric text signs on buildings that change name depending on the owner.

Oh sure, litteraly put a big neon sign that says "Our troops are here", makes perfect tactical sense...

I agree that using a sprite is probably the best option for the augmented reality
I think it's best to keep the agmented reality stuff as augmented reality rather than try and use physical objects.  I always found the flags on top of buildings to be a bit incongruous, especially as other aspects of RTSs got more and more realistic.

yes, i mean would Nod really paint all the windows red and stick rocket launchers out of them? no, they'd paint them blue or whatever colour GDI is and stick GDI weapons out, and then ambush like crazy.

yea your right, a Hude out of the ordinary glowing floating text that could probably overlook the entire map is much more subtle..

It's not real, it is an overlay supplied by the general's command and controll interface, only those looking at the screens in the war room see it.

@Smurf,

Very Nice.  Smiley
But I still didn't see the new infantry.  Can you show us some infantry screenshots?
Also, how is it going on with the voices?

Infantry have been done for a while...issue is, we can't scale them up. Note: MEC2 units are on average...30% larger than their C&C3 counterparts (all of our tanks are around the size of the Mammoth). While yes, this would mean infantry are much more realistically scaled...it also makes them horribly unreadable (especially if they stealth)...and is one of the things on our list to fix.

Voices...I have a new guy who'll be handling it real soon.

Actually, making the soldiers small and hard to see might improve balance and realism, assuming it dosn't hurt the gameplay significantly.

Small infantry could have some green icons above them as part of the augmented reality thing, like in CWC.
