MEC2 is to date, as much as I can remember one of the only RTS mods which has put much (if any) priority on having new environmental art assets made. In fact, we have nearly as much civilian art made as we do faction art. However, I'd like to have more made up...and for that we'd love to have some help. Most of the MEC2 team is American/British...and none of the others are from the countries in which MEC2 takes place.

What types of map objects would you like to see made?

I am going to set some ground rules though;

-Please keep it limited to the following countries; Lebanon, Israel and Syria
-Don't suggest "unique" landmarks, we need objects which could be useful on a wide variety of maps...not just say, Beirut.

A couple of quick examples of what would be useful;

-generic mosque photos (the ones in C&C3 were poorly done)
-highway signs

I posted very popular highway signs in another topic, forgot where Tongue

I'll just post them again (this is not only Beirut): Plus I think it would look ironic to have these in a war mod Wink

as for buildings. You should make mosques that are small (not huge dome ones) like these:

http://www.habeeb.com/images/lebanon.photos/sidon_saida/sidon_saida_0008_mosque.jpg

If your thinking of making Syrian maps, you need to make communist style buildings. Almost all of Syria have and Damascus have buildings that all look alike and are very close to the buildings in Soviet Russia;

http://cache.eb.com/eb/image?id=20447&rendTypeId=4

however old Damascus is pretty much old with very tight lanes and small buildings from the 1914s

a picture of how advertisements are in Syria on the highway to Damascus:

Yea it was in one of the early topics a while back.

What are the "love life" signs for exactly?

Those mosque images are kinda poor, really small (and the 2nd one only really shows the Minaret).

Are those images of some leader or something?

The 'I love Life' Signs are the most popular signs in Lebanon because of the Irony. Since there are a lot of problems in Lebanon, some random political party puts up these signs to tell remind people to take care of their lives and not fight all the time. This is widely known in the Arab world although its only in Lebanon (they make fun of it in Arab movies etc). There are many versions of it all over Lebanon. It's like the coca cola for USA Tongue

as for the leader, yea thats the Syrian dictator, Bashar Al Assad.

as for the mosque, The basic Idea is not make all the mosques HUGE. just a small two or one story building with a dome and a tower.

lol...I dunno if I'd actually want to spend time making art assets for a freaking /rest stop/ that is great though Wink

when we get to doing the signs, we'll definitely do up some of those love signs...although that might be a bit since at least the first release will be Jerusalem oriented

It would be great to have ancient ruins and such in this game, so people can see the MidEast is way more than a couple of camels, tents and people with towals + beards (excuse my expressions Tongue you know what I mean, we'd be breaking the stereotype view of the mideast from the west), add in all the important religious sites, so people know and "feel" there's thousands of years of history and a deep cultural heritage there.

I like that, have a map tile-set based on ruins.

I need pics and info though. Wink

On a comical (and calsualy xenephoic) level you could have a magic carpet shop. Or a statue of Enki, also references as Ea.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ea_%28Babylonian_god%29

I know Babylon is modern Iraq but it'd be cool.

If you're a shepard in a play the chances are you're wearing a tea towel and stocking elastic. Unless you're Joseph.

A magic carpet shop kinda goes against any aims to make even a somewhat authentic world. I mean, yea Kong isn't exactly real...but something similar exists. Tongue

Also, aside from having "Apoc's BDSM Shop - Its Fast, Fluid and Fun!" I don't want any references to EA in MEC2.
