CrosuS & ModToaster

CrosuS is a free game management program by ISOTX

CrosuS was a mod delivery platform for downloading, managing, and playing games, mods and maps. As well as automatically downloading, installing, and updating mods and maps for a wide range of games, it also included reviews. CrosuS is no longer supported.

ModToaster was a free mod manager program by ISOTX

ModToaster was one of the first mod manager programs that later merged into what is now CrosuS. It started out as an easy-to-use tool, that allowed fast downloading and managing of multiple Command and Conquer: Generals Zero Hour mods.

Since ISOTX was founded by a small group of fanatic modders, creating a handy mod manager program was a logical next step. With just one click, a mod from the ModToaster list was downloaded, installed and opened. Additionally, ModToaster made sure that the latest version of a mod was running on a gamer’s computer and kept it free of useless registration files. Later, the best features of ModToaster and Vapour were combined in CrosuS.

Taking the idea bit further, the ideal system would perhaps be a distributed web site with similar multi-theme platform as StackExchange StarOverflow etc. Meaning that if I cared about game “A”, then I can “mod” the base-site to theme it so game “A” content, but all the files are stored easily accessible such that anyone can with one click download the mod files for every game, eg by linking to the automated weekly incremental usenet backups.

This would allow anyone to put up a web site with a permanent common file storage. However there would need to be some control over the linking to the backups to avoid someone creating a new site that has content that’s not related to game mods, to avoid creating the situation where someone comes along and starts to use the platform for something else and then dragging the entire thing down with it (by allowing eg. letting users on a modded site upload anything they wish).

I started my new installation of Crosus v1.0 and ended up here – WHAT the Fuck? Why do you keep publishing any version of Crosus installer that doesnt work?
